Florida’s Roof Insurance Claim Deadlines

Florida Statute 627.70132 sets firm deadlines for reporting roof damage to your insurer. A new or reopened property insurance claim is barred if notice isn’t given within one year of the date of loss. For supplemental claims covering additional damage found after the original filing, that window extends to 18 months from the date of loss. Both deadlines were shortened from the previous two-year and three-year limits under Florida’s 2022 property insurance reform legislation.

One detail that catches many property owners off guard: for hurricane, tornado, windstorm, and severe weather events, the date of loss is the date the storm made landfall or was verified by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, not the date you discovered the damage.
