How to Finance Home Renovation
Renovating your home is a fun, exciting experience — and the best part is that it’s more affordable (and eventually profitable) than most people think.
Below are a few ways to pay for your home renovation.
Using Equity to Renovate Your Home
The first way to renovate your home with equity is by using a home equity line of credit (HELOC). With a HELOC, you can borrow as much as 85% of your home’s value minus however much you owe on your mortgage.
If you choose to use a HELOC, you could have anywhere between 10 and 20 years to pay it back (plus interest).
The second option is cash-out refinancing, which basically replaces your current mortgage with a larger one. In a cash-out refinance, you will be paid the difference between your first and second mortgages.
For both these options, you will be given a lump-sum payment.
